Year 1-2 English (1hr/wk)
Although most children in Years 1-2 have no difficulty in speaking and listening in English, it is common for children to struggle with spelling, vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
Our English classes are designed to guide the students step-by-step to building foundations on the two statutory appendices – on spelling and on vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
Each week, a specific theme is set to add fun into the lessons; the students can then answer comprehension questions based on this theme.
Our lessons have proven to be effective in encouraging young children to enjoy understanding the backbone of the English language.
Year 3 English (1hr/wk)
Our English classes for Year 3 train students to write down their ideas with a good degree of accuracy and with good punctuation. Our tutors, therefore are consolidating the pupils’ vocabulary, their grasp of sentence structure and their knowledge of linguistic terminology.
We make sure that students are building on what they have learnt, particularly in terms of using varied grammar, vocabulary and narrative structures – from which they can draw to express ideas.
With a specific theme each week, our lessons enable students to develop their knowledge and skills in reading non-fiction around a wide range of subjects.
The SEM Maths classes at the OxBridge Centre not only cover all the topics in the National Curriculum, but also inspire students to stretch their abilities further by ensuring a sound understanding in all the topics that are being taught. The areas in which students tend to struggle with the most are taught with more focus.
In particular, repetitive practice in calculations in areas such as addition and subtraction have shown to enable quick and accurate mental arithmetic skills. Although these skills are repeated throughout the course, it is taught in a fun and engaging manner to aid effective learning.
For Year 1, it is imperative at each level to become more familiar with numbers and build on simple calculating skills so that students can grasp more difficult concepts easily as they progress on through the years.
For Years 2 and 3, it is essential that they master the basic calculating skills so that students can grasp more difficult concepts easily as they progress on through the years.
With our SEM Maths classes, students will not only become quick and accurate in their calculations, but they will also develop solid foundations on which they can easily build on more mathematical skills.
The weekly workbooks cover a wide range of different topics which also enhances the students’ ability to tackle different types of questions, including problem solving questions. The materials have also been created and specially designed to bring out the fun in Maths with the idea in mind to encourage students who, initially, may not be so keen with Maths as a subject.
